Art Front, Cover

Art Front published from 1934-1937, and it was a dual venture of the Artists' Committee of Action and the Artists' Union. The cover of the Nov. 1934 first issue of Art Front shows both the logo of the Artists’ union, a fist holding three paintbrushes, and the logo of the Artists Committee of Action, a symbol of interracial solidarity as two artists of different color hold their tools up in their raised fists. Artists who produced work in Art Front included political cartoons by Boris Gorelick, Gropper, and Ben Shahn; and artists who had editorial control include Stuart Davis, Jacob Burck, Joe Solman, and African-American artist James Yeargans.
